Khaled Fahmy is a professor of history and the former chair of the History department at the American University in Cairo. He is currently the Shawwaf Visiting Professor at Harvard University. From 2014 to 2015, he was a Carnegie Centennial Fellow at Columbia University. He was associate professor in the Department of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies at New York University from 1999 to 2010. He is the author of several books, most recently Mehmed Ali: From Ottoman Governor to Ruler of Egypt. He has written for the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post.
